Important
Hey guys,
Thursday is Jon’s funeral, and there are a few things that Jon’s family would like from us, if possible. First, they would like us to wear our pink and orange ribbons for the service. They would also like us to wear dress clothes for the service. If you knew Jon at all, you know he liked to dress up, so we’ll do the same. For the celebration of life afterward at the Quigley’s, they asked that we bring and wear our fuzzy pink hats (only at their house, though, not for the service). If you don’t have your hat or ribbon, don’t worry—Greg Frisby will be bringing extras.
So many people have offered their homes for any of us who would like to stay over any night. Please call me (215 519 1637) or Steve (267 229 5830) or any exec board member if you would like to stay over somewhere one of the upcoming nights. You can also respond to this email and let me know that way, but you need to let me know so that Steve can tell the bed and breakfast how many people are staying there.
Here are Emily Trump’s funeral arrangements. Please, please attend these if you can. Springfield is going through the same thing we all are, and could use our support just as much as we could use theirs. Whether you knew Emily or not, the least we could do is to attend her funeral service and show her family that we are there for them. I’ll be there, and I am hoping to see you there as well.
Funeral Services will be at 1pm Friday, June 12th, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill. There will also be visitation from 4pm-8pm Thursday, June 11th, at the Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg.
Please feel free to reach out to me, Steve, or any exec board member if you would like a place to stay, to ask a question, or simply to talk.
I’ll see you soon, Dan

Devastating News
Hi everyone,
I don’t exactly know how to say what I’m about to say, as it is devastating to so many of us and is something I never thought I would be saying. However, please take the time to read this email completely.
As some of you have already heard, one of Atlas’ members, Jon Quigley, passed away after a car accident Saturday morning. One of Springfield’s members, Emily Trump, also passed away as a result of the accident. Both were going into their Sophomore year at Penn State and will be missed by so many. Here is the link to an article about the accident: http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2009/06/mechanicsburg_man_dies_in_perr.html
Jon became extremely involved in Atlas in just his first year at Penn State, and was elected one of next year’s recruitment captains for Atlas. He loved THON and everything about it. Jon came to everything—poster making for the dancers, the Smith cookout, Hershey Park, you name it. What’s more important is that he came to everything with a smile on his face and an amazing attitude. Jon embodied everything that we as members of Atlas should want to be. He really was an inspiration to all of us, and for that we cannot thank him enough.
Jon was one of the kindest, funniest, and most good hearted people I know, and I mean every word of that. His enthusiasm for life in general is something that we should all strive to have. He was an amazing friend to all of us, and he will be deeply missed.
While I didn’t get the chance to know Emily as well as Jon, I do know that she was an extremely kind and fun person to be around. She will also be missed by so many. I do not know the date and time for Emily’s funeral yet, but as soon as I know the information I will pass it along to you. Please, if you are able to go to both services, do so. It is the least we can do for Emily’s and Jon’s families.
You can bet that Atlas and Springfield will be getting together to do something in their honor, something that will truly honor the amazing lives that these friends of ours had, and the appreciation we have for getting the opportunity to know them and to call them our friends.
There will be two viewings for Jon: the first is this Wednesday, June 10th, from 10am-4pm and 6pm-9pm; the second is Thursday, June 11th, from 10:30am-12:30pm. Both will be at the Malpezzi Funeral Home.
Jon’s funeral service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, June 11th, at West Shore Evangelical Free Church. The address is 1345 Williams Grove Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
Two facebook groups have been created, both to pay respects to Jon… http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=98934934244&ref=nf and http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=86168039711&ref=nf.
Please, if you can attend any of the above, go to honor Jon. Whether you knew him well or not, Jon was a huge part of Atlas and I’m sure he would do the same for you because, well, that’s just the kind of guy he was.
If you have any questions about any of this, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
I’ll see you this week or talk to you soon, Dan

Recruitment, Advisers, & Meeting, Oh My!
Hey guys!
So this email is the longest one I’ve ever written, I’m warning you now. But I guarantee you you’ll be pumped about THON and Atlas by the end of it!
First of all, for all of you who were involved in the recruitment committee last year and for those who want to join this year, there will be a meeting next Thursday (the 16th) at 7pm by the fishtanks at the HUB. At the meeting you will elect captains for the committee and come up with some ideas for recruitment! If you are interested in being a captain or joining the committee, here’s what is required of both:
Recruitment Committee:
· Get people excited for Atlas THON!
· Make sure Atlas has another rush of active students
· Brainstorm ideas for fliers, posters, events, etc to get people to want to join Atlas
Recruitment Captains:
· In charge of implementing the ideas that come up in the committee
· Contacting different organizations such as ARHS and SHRA to get permission to advertise.
· Communication skills and leadership skills are the biggest things.
Seriously, guys, recruitment is a great committee to join and honestly is a great way to get your voice heard. If you are interested in being a captain, there will be a Q&A with last year’s captains at 7pm on Tuesday at the fishtanks in the HUB. Going to this DOES NOT mean you have to run for the captain position…it just means you are interested. Email me if you have any questions!
Next, as we try to become an official student org we need to look at who we want as our adviser. The exec board has come up with a few names of possible advisers, but we wanted to open it up to you guys. So if you have someone you think may be interested and who you feel would be a good candidate, you can send them the attached email (or if you don’t feel comfortable doing so, you can email me their name and email and I can do it). Keep in mind that the attached file is just a template. You can write something to its effect yourself, or just use those words verbatim. Honestly, guys, this is a pretty cool thing that we get to do. Choosing the right adviser is really important, so only send it out to someone if you think that they will really be a good candidate. Also, send me an email if you send it out to anyone…
Finally, we will be having a meeting Sunday the 19th at 8pm in Sparks. This meeting is going to be a ton of fun! This is the meeting where you can throw out random ideas for fundraisers, socials, events, whatever you want! You want to have a “How much chili can you eat off of your best friend’s toes?” contest as a fundraiser? I’m pretty sure it won’t happen but THIS IS THE MEETING TO SAY IT! Remember when I was saying that everyone’s ideas will be heard this year and how Atlas will “explode"??? THIS is the beginning of that! I’m telling you, this is going to be a great meeting!
Ok, I’m sorry that email was long. But you are a bit pumped up now, right? See, I told you.
I’ll talk to you guys soon. Have a great holiday!
